Following the success of her previous single ‘Next to Me’ – which helped skyrocket the artist to 36,000 monthly listens on streaming services – Los Angeles-based artist Inés Hall has returned with ‘Growing Pains’, a powder keg-fueled ode to breaking free from the weight of toxicity.
Inés Hall has shared her latest single, ‘Growing Pains’, with the world.
This new release marks the latest milestone in the indie-rock artist’s emerging career. Inés’s previous singles – the garage-rock inspired ‘Next to Me’ and the dreamy-folk track ‘both in bed’ – proved to be breakthrough hits, together racking up over 200,000 streams. Her career has also been fueled by social media, with her songs taking on a life of their own on platforms like TikTok.
‘Growing Pains’, Inés’s latest single, is perhaps more searing and searching than anything she’s released so far. Described as a “gritty pop-rock anthem that dives headfirst into the wreckage of a toxic relationship,” ‘Growing Pains’ invites listeners to follow Inés as she undertakes a raw journey of self-discovery.
In terms of the song itself, this journey is characterized by headbanging, propulsive energy, and the full throttle of Inés’s vocals. ‘Growing Pains’ is one of those rock songs that leaves nothing on the table, with the music sounding like an exorcism for the soul.
Indeed, Inés has stated that the song is about dealing with a personal subject matter (namely, a relationship that didn’t go the way she expected it to). Speaking about the track, the artist said: “The chorus talks about when you date someone who is immature and you’re dealing with the consequences of them growing and maturing. That’s where the line “I have your growing pains” stems from.”
But even with its heavy subject matter, ‘Growing Pains’ is also endlessly enjoyable and absorbing, too. The song blends elements of indie, pop, and rock – and it is crafted in a way that means it wouldn’t sound out of place blaring from the speakers of a house party, or from the headphones of someone trying to convince themselves they’re the Movie Main Character.
‘Growing Pains’ also showcases how Inés Hall has matured as a music creative. Production-wise, the track was a result of a collaboration between Inés and many of the modern-day leading lights in the industry. Specifically, Inés worked with Ben Coleman to produce the song, while also working with Zach Jones (Sting) for the drum track. Similar to previous tracks, she teamed up with Myles Rodenhouse (Earthquake Lights) for mixing and Grammy-nominated engineer Dan Millice on mastering.
The result is a polished, coherent sound, but also one that takes the listener closer to the distinctive rawness that Inés is clearly trying to convey. With ‘Growing Pains’, we feel like we’re being given closer access to Inés’s complex and dynamic artistry.
Considering that this is one of her first singles, we can expect to hear a lot more from her in the near future…
‘Growing Pains’ is released on May 23, 2025, along with a lyric video to accompany it.
