Ashtray Jonny is an independent artist, rapper, songwriter, and producer from North Carolina who started making music around the age of eight. What began as a childhood passion eventually became a lifelong journey through hip-hop, rap, R&B, soul, jazz, blues, trap, and other sounds.
His story hasn’t been an easy one. Growing up, he experienced family struggles, instability, homelessness, couch surfing, and being forced to figure things out at a young age. He eventually stepped away from school while pursuing music and searching for a different path. Through all of it, music became an outlet, a source of motivation, and something he could build for himself.
During the mixtape and CD era, Ashtray Jonny promoted his music independently by making and passing out CDs and mixtapes, uploading songs to MySpace and YouTube, and using mixtape platforms and blogs to reach listeners. His journey eventually took him to Atlanta, where he connected with artists and experienced another side of the music scene.
As technology and music promotion changed, so did he. From physical mixtapes to social media and TikTok, he continued finding new ways to get his music heard, even after setbacks that forced him to rebuild.
Ashtray Jonny’s music reflects his experiences without being limited to them. Some songs are personal, some are energetic, some are experimental, and some simply come from having fun with music. His goal isn’t to fit into one box—it’s to create whatever feels authentic.
Today, he continues building independently as an artist, songwriter, producer, and creative. His story is about turning difficult experiences into creativity, staying independent, evolving with the times, and refusing to quit.
Ashtray Jonny isn’t finished with his story. He’s still building, still creating, and still writing the next chapter.
